It’s a special birthday day for the singing Shoey and a special treat for us. He’s kindly and cordially invited us to run from this new venue near his new pad in Marple.  It’s a little further out than normal but will be amply compensated for by giving us new ground to explore in a new area.

The plan is to go back to his pad afterwards.  I’ll post the address in an e mail the day or two  before the run and we can meet up to car share. Amazing.

Travelling along the A536 from the Flower Pot :

  1. Turn right into Cocksmoss Lane signed Marton  ( opposite the 2nd. left turn signed to North Rode)
  2. Turn left on the A34  and then first right down Marton Hall Lane ( no sign at this turn)

  5. If travelling to Astbury Mere or Glebe Farm, Astbury turn  first left into Back Lane. At the end of Back Lane turn left onto Holmes Chapel Road and take the A34 at the roundabout (2nd. exit). After about 300 yards turn left into Sandy Lane which leads to Astbury Mere. Journey time from the Flower Pot to Astbury Mere should be no longer than 20 minutes. For Glebe Farm continue about 1 mile to Astbury Village turning  left into Peel Lane .Glebe Farm is about 400 yards on the right.
  6. If travelling  Mow Cop  continue along Chelford Road turning right at Holmes Chapel Road and immediately left up Sandy Lane.
  7. At the top of Sandy Lane turn right onto the A534 Sandbach Road .After 400 yards turn left at the sharp right hand bend down Wallhill Lane.
  8. At the Brownlow Heath cross road  continue straight on passing the Brownlow Pub  on Brownlow Heath Lane turning left onto the A34 and almost immediately right up New Road (by Pecks Restaurant ) ,through Akers Crossing picking up Station Road .Turn left at Drumber Lane over the level crossing and up the hill to Mow Cop.

Then passing Rossmere featured in the Alan Garner novels, before approaching the 2nd runway at Manchester Airport. Here we shall see the results work to mitigate the environmental impacts of the airport extension. We shall view new barns for the barn owls, transplants of
ancient woodland and the mammal run through the Bollin Tunnel.
The run will finish along the Bollin Valley Way through Styal Woods and the spectacular steps over Giants Castle. There is a fabulous photo opportunity from the dramatic footbridge across the river before we climb back up to Styal Mill and thence to the cars.
Afterwards we are booked in for coffee Earlams Coffee Shop on Altrincham Road in Styal, a new community venture to bring a local shop
back to a quiet village. If the small cafe is full, we have been allocated to a marquee to the rear, complete with infra-red heaters.
Unfortunately hot food finishes at 11am so bacon butties and all day breakfasts will not be available at 12 noon. If anyone is desperate for
bacon butties, I may be able to negotiate if pre-ordered. But we may be better sticking with their wonderful cakes. And it is very cheap. The
only problem is parking.
